Two CrownsThis is about Kingdom Two Crowns.

The water horse is a slow defensive Norse mount that can feed anywhere. It's mostly inspired by Nordic and Celtic legends of nykur and kelpie respectively.

Unlocking[]

The water horse can be found on a waterfall deep in the woods of the fourth island of the Norse Lands campaign. It costs three gems to unlock, and ten coins to ride.

Water waves[]

Outside of winter, the main ability of the water horse is somewhat similar to the griffin's ability, pushing greedlings, crushers and breeders away with waves of water. However, unlike the wind from the flapping wings, the waves would put out flames, be it fire trails from the fire tower, or ignited greed units.

Ice wall[]

During winter, the water horse casts a huge ice wall instead of the liquid water waves. Much like the golem's roots, the ice wall serves as a barrier, able to withstand up to thirty damage.

Up to three ice walls can be active at a time. Casting a new ice when there's already three walls up, will cause the oldest wall to melt.

Feed anywhere[]

The water horse is able to absorb water from any type of ground to replenish its stamina.

Appearance[]

The water horse is dark green during the hot seasons, and whitish blue during the winter. These colors, along with the way it emerges from the waterfall in the forest, the way it can feed on any type of ground, the reflections on its body, and even the shape of its tail, all these details indicate that this mount is indeed made of water, and it's frozen throughout the winter.

Nordic & Celtic mythology[]

Shape-shifting water spirits appear throughout the folklore of many Northern European peoples.[1] In Nordic mythology, they're called nøkk or nykur.[2][3][4] In Celtic legends, they're known as kelpie.[5]

There are many stories surrounding those mythical creatures, however they are commonly described as a spirit that would lure humans to ride onto their back, after which the victim would be unable to get off. The water horse would then drown their victim by running back towards the body of water from which they rise from.

In Norse Lands, however, the water horse is more benevolent than the folklore counterpart. It's only a bit troublesome for the Greed.

The 2019 Disney's animated movie Frozen II also features a similarly harmless water horse called Nokk.[6]
