Two CrownsThis is about Kingdom Two Crowns.
Norse town

A Norse town.

Norse Lands is a setting inspired by the Norse Viking culture,[1] where takes place a dedicated campaign, and where all challenges may happen.

Just like the other settings, Norse Lands has its own heavily reskinned aesthetics. But unlike the others, it features a considerable amount of new gameplay mechanics, noticeably more than those brought with Dead Lands.

Raw Fury description[]

Set in a domain inspired by Norse Viking culture 1000 C.E, Norse Lands is a full new campaign that expands the world of Kingdom Two Crowns with a unique setting to build, defend, explore, and conquer. In Norse Lands, players can look forward to unleashing abilities drawn upon from Norse gods, commanding mighty units, building Viking-inspired armaments, solving challenging puzzles, and facing a new enemy Greed.Raw Fury[2]

Note the focus on the campaign environment: it's where the setting is accessed on its full potential.

Aspects[]

Unique features[]

The following is a list of some of the unique features found in a Norse Lands setting:

  • Norse Rulers can wield the powers of the Norse gods after solving their respective puzzles.
  • There is no stone or iron technology for walls.
They can be upgraded through different tiers of wood, but are all weaker than their equivalent from the other settings.
  • Crushers can tear down several walls, and knock down large groups of subjects in a single charge.
  • All subjects, including villagers, farmers, archers, and builders, can pick up shields to defend themselves.
On most critical nights, they can align in a shield wall formation to help defend the Kingdom.
  • Builders can be promoted to berserkers, in order to go outside the walls fight against the most burly monsters, including crushers and breeders.
They can be improved even further with a special potion to tackle larger waves and armored breeders.
  • A fire tower replaces the ballista.
  • Six unique mounts.

Mechanical differences[]

  • The banker is available for a very short time during the day.
  • While in Dead Lands new Monarchs with inherent powers can be rescued from cages, in Norse Lands, the initial Monarchs can acquire new abilities from solving the enigmas on puzzle monuments.
  • While in Dead Lands the different Monarchs can be switched at the Ruler Shrine, in Norse Lands, the initial Monarchs can switch between the learned abilities at the Stones of Power.

Cosmetic differences[]

Some cosmetic changes highlighted

There is a great amount of cosmetic differences, meaning in-game elements that function just like in the other settings, but that have their own unique appearance in Norse Lands. For example:

  • the entire forest is regionally adapted
  • all coins outside (and almost all inside) the purse are silver
  • squirrels, and black grouses (male, black; female, brown) replace rabbits
  • moose replace deer
  • a brewery replaces the bakery
  • during winter, all buildings are covered with snow.

Campaign[]

Aside from all the distinct aspects of the setting, the Norse Lands campaign is a sequence of six islands, instead of the traditional five from New Lands and all other Two Crowns settings. It has a very different order of unlockables.

Norse Lands is the fourth optional campaign in Kingdom Two Crowns. When starting a new campaign, its logo appears on the left of the European campaign logo.

Challenges[]

The Norse Lands setting along with most of its unique features may also be explored on Challenge Islands. For players who own the DLC, it appears as an option when starting a challenge on Skull, Dire, Plague, and Trade.

In Lost Islands, however, where there is no initial choice of biomes, Norse Lands, among the other settings, may be randomly chosen by the game. When this happens, even players that do not own the DLC, have the opportunity to play the challenge on the Vikings' setting.

History[]

Announcement

Norse Lands was firstly teased on 13 August 2021,[4] and officially announced on 31 of the same month.[5][6] Along with the official announcement, as a reference to the in-game puzzles required to access the Monarchs' powers, a link to an online jigsaw puzzle with one thousand pieces that should form the keyart of the new setting, was shared on Steam.[7] With the max number of simultaneous players capped at twenty,[8] the whole picture was revealed within a couple of hours. After that, a simpler version of the puzzle was made available on the Kingdom site.[9]

Demo

On 21 October 2021 a demo of the Norse Lands campaign was made available for free for Windows users on Steam.[10][11] The demo version tried to mimic a full campaign in one modded island full of random unlockables of the new setting, and with no boat. After destroying the cave there, the player would be prompted with the options to buy the game or restart the demo. On 12 November 2021, the demo was made available also for Mac and Linux.[12]

Release

Four days later, on 16 November 2021,[13] the demo was removed from the store,[14] and the full Norse Lands campaign was released as a premium DLC, along with the "Conquest Update",[15] that brought several changes to all settings.

Challenges

On 23 January 2023, along with the release of Lost Islands, Norse Lands was made available as a possible setting for all Challenge Islands.
