Raw Fury description

With the new Dire Wolf mount as your aid, protect its pup at all costs. No crown, no monarch. No pup, no monarch! Now build the boat and try to escape as you run to as many islands as possible before the inevitable.Raw Fury [1]

Island layout

Technologies

The stone and iron technologies are available on every Dire Island. Once paid for each type, their respective tech will be activated for all next islands.[Bug 1]

Portals

Unlike the campaign, the number of portals is the same on every island.

There are two small portals on both sides of town.

Wolf

Two CrownsThis is about Kingdom Two Crowns.

The wolf, also known as Fenrir, is mount that has a charge attack and recharges by Howling to the Moon.

As the dire wolf, it's the only mount available on the challenge.

And as the Norse wolf, it's one of the seven optional mounts present in the campaign, where it has an additional defensive ability.

Charge attack

Trigger for the special ability
PC 1st P L.Shift while standing still
2nd Player G
Mobile Swipe up
N. Switch ZL or ZR
Xbox Right trigger
PS4 L2 or R2

The wolf is a good hunter that can kill all rabbits and deer within its range with only one charge.

In this aspect it is similar to the bear, with a longer range and a bit more stamina.

It can kill a few unmasked greedlings within its range with one hit, but not all of them. The fact that greedlings can survive its charge, makes it very risky to rely on its attack for protecting the wolf pup on Dire Island, even on the first nights. On late-game waves it's useless for defense. See history.

Unlike the bear it can damage portals. Caution is though advised when hunting deer around small portals, as the damage can trigger inactive and exhausted portals, making them release defense waves.

During the rest buff (after howling), it can charge a few times in a row without getting tired.

Although somewhat effective, the leap attack can make monarchs land in the middle of a crowd of Greed, if not used carefully.

Howling

The wolf howls when it sees the Moon. Howling it can rest, recharging its stamina and receiving the rest buff; i.e.:

Usually it only howls once per nighttime, but if it has done any charge attack after howling, and the Moon is still there, it may howl a second time to fully recharge before the dawn.

Dire wolf

The dire wolf is the starter and the only mount available on Dire Island.

Norse wolf

Norse wolf or blue wolf is a mount unlocked on the 6th island of the Norse Lands campaign.

In the Norse mythology, Fenrir was the son of Loki and giantess Angerboda. Fenrir was feared by the gods, because of a prophecy that he would bring the world's end. Due to that, Fenrir was bound in chains by the gods, but Tyr's hand was bitten off in the process. The prophecy however foretells that the chains will be broken on Ragnarok and he would eventually devour the sun itself.

In Norse Lands, the legendary wolf Fenrir serves in both offensive and defensive side of the battle against the greed. Having abilities to deal with the greed alongside a buff on your citizens.

Defensive buff

The secondary ability of Fenrir is the ability to give off defensive buff to the units close to the monarch when the buff is activated. This ability is activated together with the charge attack, but has a different cooldown than the actual charge attack.

The defensive buff is applied with a visual que in which the first pounce attack would give off a shine effect. After which, the units affected by the buff will start flashing in white. This buff can also be applied on the units summoned by Hel's Trophy.

The defensive buff can only be applied again after the cooldown, which is indicated by the wolf flashing white after some time.

Wolf pup

Wolf Pup

The wolf pup follows its mother from the beginning.

It behaves exactly like the dog, barking in the direction of any incoming Greed and being especially useful before Blood Moons.

The main difference is that the pup cannot be rescued, as the defeat screen is triggered instantly the moment a greedling touches it. So the wolf charge is only useful before this moment.

If the Monarch crosses an active portal, a greedling may spawn just when the pup reaches the portal and take him. To prevent that, one should avoid exploring behind portals after midday or follow one of these strategies (listed from the slow-costly-safe on top, towards the fast-cheap-risky on bottom):

  • stop before the portal, drop a coin, wait for a greedling to pick it up, then run past the portal.

  • drop one or two coins at the portal without stopping.

  • with a very fast mount (for example, the stag) just run, run, and drop no coins.

Note that the Monarch can still lose the challenge if a greedling takes the Crown, however, losing the pup is a lot more likely to happen, given the pup's position that's not fully controllable and the fact that it can be taken even if the Monarch has coins in the pouch.

Spanning the islands

The Dire Island is for speedrunners. Each coin spent on anything not absolutely necessary, means one coin not invested (or delayed to be invested) on the boat, which probably means the Monarch will not travel to as much islands as he/she could. The major distractors are:

  1. the Banker Template:Det
  2. the stone technology on the very first island. Template:Det
  3. the iron technology for the first islands. Template:Det
  4. the town center for the first island. Template:Det
  5. farms Template:Det
  6. destroying portals Template:Det
  7. towers and pikemen Template:Det

Blood Moons take place with the same frequency of those in Classic and New Lands—i.e. every five to six days—followed by the usual truce.

There is an overall day count, as in the Two Crowns campaign, making waves and Blood Moons harder as the days pass. However, waves tend to be easier during the first two days on each island, giving the Monarch enough time to build stone walls when it becomes necessary. Even on Blood Moons, only greedlings and masked greedlings spawn, without breeder, floater or crown stealer.

Bug

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 Once paid for the stone and iron mines, if they are activated for all next islands, the expected behavior is that these mines do not reappear on next islands or, if they do, they should have at least the aspect of activated mines and not accept coins at all. But since the release of Challenge Islands up to the current state of the game, the mines on next islands still have their natural appearance and accept coins. This can confuse inexperienced monarchs, and make them spoil their resources unnecessarily.
